The United Jewish People’s Order sends our heartfelt and sincere condolences to the family and friends of the recent victims of anti-Asian violence in Atlanta, Georgia. This hate crime targeted Asian-Americans, women, and sex workers and is part of the long-standing and systemic racism embedded in the culture, institutions, and laws we live under – racism that allows some peoples to be seen as less than, as not worthy of legal immigrant status or citizenship.
In Canada, we face the same problems with systemic racism against Asian, Indigenous, Black, and Brown people. We call on all levels of government, community organizations, and ourselves to work towards confronting this systemic racism that underscores the structures we live within. It is time to create a more loving world. Our lives depend on it.
