Secular Jewish experiential education.
Toronto's secular Jewish shule. Our Sunday school offers programs from pre-school through B'Mitzvah, immersing students in an environment where they learn, play, and experiment with secular Jewishness and social justice.

Programs by age
From first questions to B'Mitzvah, and beyond.

Kinder Kapers
Songs, stories, and play that introduce our youngest learners to secular Jewish culture.

Foundations
What do the creation stories of the Algonquin share with Adam, Lilith, and Eve? We start with big questions.

Roots & justice
How Jewish practices of Gemilut Hasidim evolved across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

B'Mitzvah
Our B'Mitzvah and Adult Secular B'Mitzvah programs, milestones grounded in culture and conscience.
Our approach
We treat the holidays from a secular and social-justice perspective.
Students don't memorize ritual, they explore where traditions come from, what they ask of us, and how they connect to the struggles for justice happening now.
Through the year
Holidays at the shule.
Sukkes
Celebrate the Jewish harvest holiday of Sukkes with the Morris Winchevsky School: help decorate the sukkah, learn the symbols of the holiday, sing and listen to stories, and play games.
Chanukah
A secular celebration of Chanukah with the School and UJPO: candle lighting, games and activities for all ages, the spiel, and the sufganiyot.
Purim
Students learn about the Jewish exile in Persia and about Purim as a celebration of Esther and Vashti’s bravery against the authority of Ahasuerus.
Passover
Passover as a celebration of remarkable acts of resistance: the ancient Exodus from slavery, and the broader themes of courage in the face of oppression and the importance of solidarity.

Teach, mentor, build
Why volunteer at the School?
Our shule runs on parents, alumni, and community members who give their Sundays. You don't need to be a teacher, you need to care about passing this tradition on.

Shape young minds
Assist in classrooms, lead a workshop, or mentor a B'Mitzvah student through their project.
- 02
Strengthen the community
Help run brunches, holiday builds, and family events that make the shule feel like home.
- 03
Pass it forward
Many of our volunteers are alumni and parents, continuing what was given to them.
From our families
We are so happy to have found an educational home for our children which shares our secular and progressive Jewish values and runs a school that feels familial, warm and enriching.
