Toronto Jewish Folk Choir

A century of Yiddish song.

Founded by Jewish immigrant workers, the choir has carried the mame-loshn in music for a hundred years, songs of labour, resistance, and joy.

About the choir

Voices, a hundred years running.

The Toronto Jewish Folk Choir began as the Freiheit Gezang Farein, the Freedom Singing Society, an amateur chorus of immigrant workers who believed song belonged to everyone. A century on, it still performs the Yiddish repertoire: partisan hymns, folk melodies, and new works, in concert each year. In 2026, for UJPO's centennial, the choir returned to the stage.
