Yiddish Art and Anti-Fascism – Sold Out!

Rad Yiddish and UJPO present educator Sharoni Sibony and special guests for a fascinating exploration of Leftist Yiddish history of Toronto on Sep 13 and 14, followed by radical art-making inspired by the past on Sep 21.

(1) Radical Spadina History Tour

Participants meet near corner of Queen & Spadina

Revisit the radical heart of Yiddish-speaking communities in Toronto along Spadina Ave. and beyond. Featuring stories connected to the season, from Labour Day Parades to Yom Kippur Balls, we'll explore the hidden histories and diverse lineages of Toronto's Yiddish activists.

This tour will be fully accessible to strollers and mobility devices, staying on sidewalks with curb cuts to cross roads at intersections. We will not be entering any buildings, so please dress for the weather. We will not be stopping for food/bathroom breaks but the tour will have 5 stops where we spend about 10 minutes each. Folks are welcome to bring a mobility decide or mini-tripod chair to sit on at these stops.

(2) Radical Archival Collage Workshop

Centre for Social Innovation, 192 Spadina Ave.

Using copies of historic pamphlets and protest signs, broadsides and bulletins, musical scores and more, from the archives, we'll build new art out of the remnants of our radical Yiddish past.

The ground floor of CSI Spadina is fully accessible, with a ramp connected to the south-east doors on Spadina Ave. Masks will be required to keep our community safe. Please let us know if masking is a hardship for you for an exemption. No art-making experience needed.
