Folly in the Face of Fascism: Meeting and Becoming the Shlemiel

How can we fight fascism with fun and folly? How can laughter be a tool of resistance? This art-making workshop for adults is designed to help us recharge and build resilience in a time of chaos and uncertainty, because laughter is the best medicine. We’ll meet the Wise Fools of Chelm from Yiddish literature and imagine what happens when the most hapless among them, Shlemiel, tries to be an artist. “But I’m not an artist!” Neither is Shlemiel, and boy does he have fun trying anyway! We give you permission to get messy, de-sanctify art supplies, discover that anything can be art, and enjoy the cathartic release of laughter in community.
