This event is a fundraiser - Please donate generously! Funds will be split 50/50 between for Crips for Esims for Gaza and Gazan Canadian Families.

Crips for eSims for Gaza is a collaboration between @pipagaopoetry, @thellpsx, and @disability_visibility to raise funds to get eSims into Gaza.

Gazan Canadian Families advocate for Palestinian Canadians and fight anti-Palestinian racism in Canada, including Canada’s refusal to process the applications of Palestinians waiting to join their families in Canada.🎭 THE SHOW

Yiddish theatre-makers, Jewish misfits, and rabble-rousers of all stripes have been suppressed by inquisitions, czars, states, censors, and police for centuries! Purim has always been political - through stealth, satire, and subversion. Catch these hot mamas dish our comedy, song, and burlesque and take you for a ride through queer, Jewish time.♿

🎊 WHY CELEBRATE PURIM?

As Jews of conscience who are devastated by the ongoing atrocities in Gaza committed in our name, many of us carry this question. How can we observe a holiday this year that embraces revelry, pageantry, and play?

In the story of Esther, Mordecai entreats his niece to step into her Jewishness to prevent atrocities from happening. Just like Esther, we are invited to step into our power - not by moving away from our Jewishness, but by stepping into it in order to enact change. We are called upon to speak up, take a stance, and rise up with integrity in our wholeness.

In times such as these, art serves as a transgressive tool to face our collective Haman shadows where other means fall short. We see our thousand year old folk art tradition of Purimshpil as a practice of truth telling, as well as personal and communal release.

We believe Purim is a revolutionary call to upend norms and resist oppressive forces. This year, we invite you to join us in stepping into this upside-down world in order to make it right side up.
