B’Mitzvah Educator

Reports to Education Director

The Morris Winchevsky School is hiring a B’Mitzvah Educator for the 2026–2027 school year, guiding students through their research project, Tzedakah/Tikkun Olam project, and creative component ahead of their graduation ceremony.

Educators are responsible to the Education Director, who reports to the Executive Director and the Shule Advisory Committee (SAC). The Shule is governed by the Board of Directors of the Morris Winchevsky School.

Remuneration is $185.00 per week of teaching ($60 for lesson planning, $125 for execution). Extra assistance requested as the graduation ceremony draws near is compensated on a per-hour basis.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive 30 minutes ahead of scheduled class time to set up the classroom, and remain after each class until it is returned to a presentable state
  • Respond promptly to all communications from the Education Director or Executive Director (within three business days of emails, two business days of texts or calls)
  • Familiarize yourself with the Emotional Regulation Guidelines, the Guidelines for Teaching Israel/Palestine, and the Guidelines for Teaching the Holocaust, and review the Shule’s Curriculum and relevant Appendices ahead of lesson planning
  • Attend two paid Professional Development sessions each year, one in the Fall Semester and one in the Winter Semester
  • Attend a weekly online planning meeting with the Education Director
  • Spend roughly an hour a week on lesson planning, much of which can be accomplished during the weekly planning meeting
  • Complete lesson plans and file copies in the Shule’s shared Google Drive no later than the Friday of each week
  • Update post-lesson reflections in the Google Drive by Monday evening
  • Supervise your assigned Teacher’s Assistant(s) and guide how they can best support class management and lesson execution
  • Attend all Holiday celebrations connected to the Sunday School program, including Sukkot, Chanukah, and Purim
  • Supervise your class during field trips and community-wide Shule events
  • Involve the Education Director in all communication with parents, especially where lesson content or execution is in question
  • Help students identify and select a research project in the Fall Semester, and guide them through the research process over the year
  • Help students identify and select a Tzedakah/Tikkun Olam project in the Winter Semester, and guide them through this social justice component
  • Help students identify and select a creative component in the Winter Semester, and guide their rehearsal ahead of the ceremony
  • Prepare for and attend monthly meetings with parents and/or students on their progress and preparation for the graduation ceremony
  • Facilitate a relationship with B’Mitzvah parents toward a social justice-focused collaboration on the graduation ceremony
  • Oversee rehearsals for the graduation ceremony, and attend the ceremony at the end of the Shule year (may be invited to MC)

Supervision of Children

  • Children must be supervised at all times in classrooms and on Shule property
  • Students must be accompanied to and from any activity requiring a change of location
  • Children may not be taken outside the building without prior approval from the Education Director
  • Any incident resulting in injury must be reported to the Education Director immediately
