What is this thing called “gender” anyway? It seems to be changing so fast! Transgender and gender-diverse kids and adults are popping up everywhere. And it’s all so political — the Right opposes trans access to bathrooms as fiercely as abortion. What’s going on?
This lively, and thought-provoking presentation (with film-clips, interactive exercises) hopes to leave you with more questions than answers, but definitely better-informed.
We’ll see how far we get in the time we have — your questions and comments will guide what we look at — but polished chapters that Hershel will bring on his laptop include:
-
Histories and Geographies of gender
-
The Birds and the bees 2.0
-
Disrupting gender: The Opposite Sex is Neither.
-
Trans communities here and now: We’re fabulous! Get used to us!
-
Paradigm shift: Mental Health to Human Right
-
Discrimination and Resilience
-
“Nice gender! Did your mom pick that out for you?” — an interactive exercise
