Early Childhood Educator – Kinder Kapers

The Morris Winchevsky School is a secular Sunday Jewish School, focused on social justice. Programs range from pre-school to Bar/Bat Mitzvah (Grades 7/8). Our experiential curriculum explores Jewishness as a civilization with a rich culture, holidays, history and a dedication to ethics.
Summary: Educators are responsible for designing and facilitating experiential lesson plans each week, in consultation with the Education Director. The Education Director provides Educators with a rich database of background, historical and cultural content, multimedia and secular practice ideas. Educators are also responsible for delivering activities at the School’s holiday celebrations, including Sukkot/Sukkes, Chanukah, Purim, Tu B’shvat and others.
Kinder Kapers is our fun and interactive program for pre-schoolers aged 2.5 to 5 years and their grownups. Sessions are held weekly on Sunday mornings, with themes such as Jewish holidays, Tzedakah, Shalom/Peace and Ritual. Sessions incorporate Yiddish, Hebrew and English songs, movement, arts and crafts, storytelling, puppets, circle time, and play time -- all in the spirit of secular Jewishness.
Duties and Responsibilities include:

Bi-Weekly design of a lesson plan in conjunction with the Education Director (each lesson plan is taught for two weeks in a row. To see the schedule, visit our website).

Facilitating the implementation of the lesson on Sunday mornings

Participation in periodic professional development activities and team meetings, as necessary

Supervision of the Teacher’s Assistant, as they assist in incorporating remote learning into the class.

Preparation for and participation in special events and holidays
Successful Candidates will have:
-
Preference given to Early Childhood Education graduates or candidates

Background in Jewish history, culture & holidays
-
Understanding of a progressive secular Jewish philosophy
-
Musical ability – Leading a choir or playing an instrument(s) such as guitar and/or ukulele preferable
-
Creative, child-centered approach to teaching
-
Ability to plan and lead craft activities
-
Yiddish and/or Hebrew an asset (not a requirement)

Creative, enthusiastic, energetic personality
NOTE: Our Sunday School has developed a comprehensive COVID-19 safety plan.
This is a permanent part-time position
Sunday mornings, Weekly, October –June. Compensation: $150 per session.
