The Morris Winchevsky School is a secular Sunday Jewish School, focused on social justice. Programs range from pre-school to B’Mitzvah (Grades 7/8). Our experiential curriculum explores Jewishness as a civilization of rich cultures and diverse traditions.
Educators are responsible for designing experiential lesson plans each week, in consultation with the Education Director and for facilitating them on Sunday mornings. Educators are supported with a detailed curriculum, archives and a database of historical and cultural content, multimedia, and secular practice guidelines. Each lesson is also rooted in principles of social justice from a decolonial, social justice-focused framework. Educators are responsible for delivering activities at the Shule’s holiday celebrations, including Sukkot, Chanukah, Tu B’Shvat and Purim.
Duties and Responsibilities include:

Weekly design of an experiential lesson plan in consultation with the Education Director

Implementation of the lesson plan on Sunday mornings

Supervision of a Teacher’s Assistant(s) during Sunday morning lessons

Supervision of children during Snack Time.

Participation in periodic professional development activities and team meetings, as necessary

Preparation for and participation in special events and holidays
Successful Candidates will have:
-
Experience with teaching, facilitation and/or program leadership with the relevant age range
-
Background in experiential education
-
Background in Jewish history, culture & holidays
-
Understanding of a progressive secular Jewish philosophy
-
Creative, child-centered approach to education
-
Yiddish, Hebrew, and/or Ladino an asset (not a requirement)
-
Artistic ability a plus (e.g. music, drama, new media, other arts-based activities)
-
Creative, enthusiastic, energetic attitude.
This is a permanent part-time position.
Compensation is based on seniority with a baseline of $165/week.
