Bagel Brunch: "New Social Movements Challenging the Existing Food System"
Sunday July 11

Food can be a powerful lens to make connections between social justice, health and ecological challenges facing populations and ecological systems. In response to these challenges, there has been a recent groundswell of food-related initiatives - what many analysts have identified as a new social movement. Charles Levkoe will discuss some of the innovative grassroots organizations from around the globe that have emerged to challenge the existing food system and to build viable alternatives. A doctoral candidate working within the Canadian food movement, Charles worked as a consultant with The Stop Community Food Centre, ran a Community Shared Agriculture farm project in Nova Scotia and has coordinated urban agriculture projects in Toronto.

A childcare program for toddlers will be offered during this bagel brunch.
