"We Are Here"
An Interactive Multimedia Workshop on the Continuity of Jewish Song Before, During and After the Holocaust, featuring Adrienne Cooper and Marilyn Lerner.
Monday November 2, 2009
7:30 p.m.
Workmen's Circle, 471 Lawrence Avenue West
This interactive multimedia workshop brings to life the vibrant Yiddish song culture of the Holocaust and explores its continuity with the vital musical life of East European Jewish communities before the war, and of survivors following the war. All songs will be translated and several will be explored in singable English translations. The workshop will be illustrated by a projected photoscape of Holocaust songwriters, wartime musical performances, and the milieux in which the music was made.
Adrienne Cooper is an internationally celebrated singer and educator and teacher of Holocaust music to students of all ages and diverse backgrounds. She is Executive for External Affairs of The Workmen's Circle/Arbeter Ring in New York City. The workshop will be accompanied by pianist and composer Marilyn Lerner.
This program is co-sponsored by the United Jewish People's Order/Winchevsky Centre, the Committee for Yiddish-UJA Federation, Friends of Yiddish and the Toronto's Workmen's Circle.
